Presenting Sponsor Coop
The National Park Bike Marathon goes once around the Swiss National Park, which has been a protected area and habitat for indigenous plants and animals since 1914. Sustainable management of the natural environment is also an important issue for Coop; fittingly, this retailer backs up this commitment in its role as sponsor of the National Park centre in Zernez. Sustainable use of natural resources also determines the way they do business: in a comprehensive study of 148 international retailers Coop was named by the rating agency oekom research as the most sustainable retailer in the world - and that was not for the first time.
One example of sustainability is Coop's own label "Pro Montagna": over the last 10 years Coop has been marketing products produced and processed in Swiss mountain areas. Part of the sales proceeds is donated to "Coop Aid for Mountain Regions". This helps to ensure the existence and livelihood of mountain farmers. One example is Alp Tamangur, between the valleys of S-charl and Müstair, which was extensively refurbished in 2015 thanks to "Coop Aid for Mountain Regions".
Nature and the protection of the environment are also of great importance to the organisers of the National Park Bike Marathon: this highlight of the Graubünden bike scene has for several years been climate neutral, and the organisers continue to make every effort to optimise sustainability.
Coop wishes all the participants of the National Park Bike Marathon an unforgettable, close to nature experience along the trail around the Swiss National Park. Coop extends grateful thanks to the over 500 volunteers who have given their assistance and dedication over the year, and who make this event possible.
