Sandro Fliri: Competing in the National Park Bike Marathon for the 25th Time
My parents just said, «Let’s do it!»
Sandro Fliri
Sandro recalls this statement with a laugh. Back then, in 2002, he was just 12 years old and took part in his first National Park Bike Marathon with his family. He’s been at the starting line every year since.
He especially likes the relaxed atmosphere during the race. Sandro also enjoys having a quick chat with other riders along the course and fondly recalls the special atmosphere among the spectators in Zernez and Guarda, some of whom liven up the mood with cowbells.
When it comes to the organization of the bike marathon, he appreciates the focus on safety. If the weather forecast is poor, the race is moved to an alternative route.
Sandro advises mountain bikers competing for the first time not to put pressure on themselves from the start—a learning process that took him many years as well.
To prepare for the race, he uses the existing trails that start right in Lavin. One of his favorite trails is in Val Müstair, where you can enjoy views of the villages and the surrounding mountains.
Mountainbike-Tipp in Val Müstair
In addition to his job as branch manager at Fliri & Conrad in Val Müstair, Sandro also really enjoys going on bike rides with his family.
